What Happens When You Receive That Dreaded Call

What Happens When You Receive That Dreaded Call

Two years ago today the phone rang and with a heavy heart and much hesitation I answered. I recognized the number, it was my doctor, and I knew this call could go one of two ways. One would leave me jumping for joy and the other would bring me to tears. I'll never forget the words when she said..." You're biopsy came back positive for breast cancer". BOOM! I was floored!..

Wishing You All the Best for the Holidays

Wishing You All the Best for the Holidays

Hi All! I just finished my 30th radiation treatment, with only 4 more to go, and I'm feeling great! The skin where the treatments are focused is super tan but holding up really well (thank you Aloe Vera plant and Lavender oil!) It’s two days before Christmas and we are getting ready to close out this year shortly and wow, what a year it has been! My last radiation treatment is scheduled for January 31st and I promise you, I WILL BE CELEBRATING!

This year I have seen myself transform into who I have always desired to be. It’s been a wild ride, this breast cancer journey of mine, but through it all I feel wiser, stronger, happier, so loved and more alive than ever!...

Radiation #21, Only 13 More to Go!

Radiation #21, Only 13 More to Go!

Hi All!  I'm so happy to say I am now more than halfway through with radiation, and I'm feeling great! The only thing that I notice is that I'm needing a little extra sleep. Otherwise, I'm kickin' butt! I am so excited to be on track with all of this. I have 13 more treatments as of today and if I don't miss a day I will be finished by the end of the year, which was my goal.

Great things are happening! My hair is growing in (not sure what color it is yet), my eyebrows are back and I have little tiny eyelashes sprouting. Of course, hair is growing back everywhere else as well, which means I have to shave again, but that's OK, I'll take it!

Can Being Thankful Bring You True Happiness

Can Being Thankful Bring You True Happiness

Hi All! I just finished radiation treatment #12, which leaves 22 more to go. It's flying by! It is also the week of Thanksgiving and as much as I want to share videos and photos of my radiation treatments, I’ve decided to let that go until next week and focus this post on a couple of other things, feeling good and being thankful.

Every year we all sit down around the table with family and friends and indulge in savory casseroles, a big glorious bird and lots of sweet and succulent desserts. Giving thanks with family, enjoying food and having fun is a wonderful thing and is definitely worthy of the day we set aside each year to celebrate thankfulness.

Getting Zapped!

Getting Zapped!

Hi All! Today was radiation #3. That leaves 31 to go! So far so good. I'm still feeling great and loving life!

I really like my Radiologist Oncologist and the sweet gals who do my treatments. Everyone in that office is super nice and they make me feel at home. Once again I feel blessed.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to get radiation? Well, I sure did and now I know. The experience itself is quite simple and quick, takes only a few minutes. Of course I have to deal with a 40 minute drive each way, but the treatment itself is a piece of cake. Once I get there I just walk on back to "the room", strip off my upper half, get situated on the machine where my special pillow is waiting for me and then get zapped....

The Next Step in Healing, Radiation

The Next Step in Healing, Radiation

Hi all. Yesterday I met with my newest doctor, my Radiologist Oncologist Dr. Huddleston. I really like him and can’t believe that I’m finally at this point, radiation. Here’s a quick recap of my journey:

1.     I had my yearly mammogram April 23, 2014. They found a mass and took a biopsy of it.

2.     I received a phone call on April 24, 2015 informing me it was cancer, 5 days before closing on our home in Tennessee and moving to Alabama, where we knew no one.

3.     We moved to Mobile, which was not where we wanted to be, into temporary corporate housing, which turned out to be a huge blessing! There we found an amazing group of doctors and nurses that I will be forever grateful for.

4.    I had my port implanted May 24, 2015....

I Have Some Fabulous News to Share!

I Have Some Fabulous News to Share!

Hi All!

I just left my surgeons office where I had the follow up from my surgery and it went really well! My doctor said everything was removed with great margins and no bad cells were found in the margins. I am cancer free!! I'm healing really well, my body is working perfectly and repairing quickly. I am so thrilled with all of the news they shared with me yesterday that I actually did a few leaps and turns while dancing a celebration dance.

5 Steps That Changed My Perspective on Life

5 Steps That Changed My Perspective on Life

Hi All! It’s been a little over a week since my surgery and my incisions are healing well. I also feel pretty darn good! I have a follow up with my oncologist and then with my surgeon on Monday and I will find out then what my next step is. For now, it’s healing time!

As I begin this post I’m looking out our windows that open up to the Gulf of Mexico and see a vast sea of glistening water moving quickly from the east towards the west. It’s a beautiful 80-degree, sunny fall day and I feel blessed. I cannot put words to how peaceful and serene this moment is, but I feel overwhelmed with gratitude. Being here has really changed my life and has been extremely healing.

An Issue Dear to My Heart

An Issue Dear to My Heart

Hi All!

Yes, it's October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, this month means so much to me. Not only am I dealing with Breast Cancer, but my surgery is this month. Next Wednesday as a matter of fact! I have so wanted to get involved with one of the walking events but all of the local events take place after my surgery and I just don't know what kind of condition I will be in. So writing this post is one way I can hopefully make a difference by bringing attention to the cause...

Chemo is Over! Time to Celebrate!

Chemo is Over! Time to Celebrate!

HI All! I just completed my last Chemo treatment, woohoo!!!! I am so happy to have this part of my healing done! Yes, I have to deal with the side effects still but it’s all good, I got this! Right now I’m feeling like a truck hit me once more, but I know that in a few days I will be up and running again. It’s amazing how resilient our bodies are!

These last three weeks I have really been focusing my thoughts away from all of the scary things about disease and what makes us sick and instead focusing on what makes us healthy and I must say it has been fantastic! In my last post I mentioned how I have been practicing listening to my body and what it needs and in so doing I have really seen cool things happening...
